Learn to Play Craps – Hints and Techniques: The Past of Craps
Be brilliant, play brilliant, and pickup craps the proper way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps developed from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French relocated down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he established the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
